
“He’ll be a doctor, no matter what the field is..”
The words that any above average student has to hear during school time from mothers to motivate their children they play with. But it has happened in my life that this saying is literally a prophecy. Had it not been for that, my KEAM options, which I pursued with the aim of BSc Agriculture and had sufficient rank, unfortunately got deregistered by my mistake and hence I have to take BAMS as my degree.
Going back a little further, would you believe that my mother started my Facebook account in 2012, which I still use today? But at that time I had no idea what digital marketing was. In 2020, in the 3rd edition of the National Seminar conducted every 3 years in the college, I was instructed to manage social media handles, blog etc. In the years that followed, positions and responsibilities like the media cell coordinator of the college that I reluctantly joined made me realize that there were many more fields to enjoy besides the profession of medicine.
From Marvel Heroes to Minnal Murali, there are power discovery moments. I discovered the power of the field of Digital Marketing, though not mine, again three years later in the fourth edition of the same National Seminar, Saadhanaa-4, 2023. Naturally, following the work of the previous edition, more responsibilities came this time. In the beginning, the strategy was only to select talented people in the field of editing, shooting, presenting, make a team and update social media, but later some twists happened.
It is a fact that such a large seminar, that too as a series, this many editions do not happen anywhere else in India in the ‘Ayurvedic Medicine Field’. So I thought why not market it with the tagline ‘India’s Largest Ayurvedic National Seminar Series’ and without a second thought asked to design a poster with it. On the same day when the registration slots were opened, we uploaded the opening post, while finishing designing the poster saying ‘Registration is extended by 10 more days’ after the initial last date. Using the boost option, I set the target audience with the thought of leaving an ad. The result surprised me. We, who planned to extend the registration for 10 more days, with Saves and Direct Clicks were forced to upload the closing poster 7 days earlier with 100+ registrations than expected.
Since then I have made up my mind that digital marketing is to be utilized in my life as much as possible. Be it the health field, especially in the Ayurvedic field, there is a huge unexplored area for digital marketing. But I decided to study certified because of the realization that what I did that day was just a handful of sand on the beach.
In short, digital marketing for me is not a last resort to be chosen if there is no job as seen in many advertisements, but a great source of possibilities.
